How I Spent My Summer

I painted early on this Summer but for most of the Summer I worked in my gardens. Working with the plants and flowers is a different kind of creativity and I love being out in nature. Our summers are very short here in Michigan, so I spend as much time as possible in the gardens.

This was so much fun. My Sister-Friend Sally was so much help as usual. See more details in my Events page.

I can't believe its 2019!  We had a very cold and icy winter here in Michigan but that afforded me more time to paint.  I am once again painting in oil after many years. It's been an exciting challenge at times. There are several canvases that ended up in the circular file. Still, I remain excited about my work and hope that you enjoy it as well.

I am so excited that I was accepted into this incredible Art Fair. I will post pictures after the event.

Guest Artist at Flat River Gallery in Lowell Michigan

December - January 2018

This was such a wonderful experience. Everyone at the gallery was so supportive and such wonderful hosts. This gallery is a showcase

for so many wonderful artists and merits a visit anytime.

The Lakeshore Fine Arts Festival in Muskegon was a lot of fun. Talking to other artists who stopped by and sharing my artwork with so many people. One of the highlights was a little boy about eleven purchasing the tiny sheep framed watercolor. He was so excited and just loved it. I don't think I will return next year as the majority of people attending were not interested in Art or higher priced items. Jewelry was a big seller and the silver jewelry booths won the two highest awards.

I was so fortunate to have my sister-friend Sally to help me set up, take down and sell. We always have great laughs wherever we go. We were in Muskegon for three very hot days. It is a lot of work to put up and take down the tent and heavy grid walls but we did it. I was misinformed about being able to bring prints so the second day my daughter brought them to me and we moved the table forward.

Reeds Lake Art Festival

I had so much fun at this great festival. We ended up with a warm and beautiful day in spite of a rainy beginning.

These favorite paintings were sold at the Festival to a wonderful collector

Woodland Pathway

Watercolor on Aquabord

5x7 inches

I'm not sure if I like painting on aquabord. It is absorbent but it is difficult to mix colors on the surface.  I used fixative on the finished piece as you do not frame it under glass. I have a larger board so I plan to try it again in the future. Always fun to learn and try new things.

Watercolor sketch on Yupo paper

I've just begun to play with this paper and watercolor. The results are so beautiful and surprising. I can't wait to paint the next one. Be sure and check back to see my progress with this way of painting.

Gold Sofa

Watercolor on Yupo paper

9x12 inches

My second piece and I'm continuing to learn about this plastic paper and watercolor. I'm having fun with it for sure. Once again I have included one of my paintings within the painting.

The original is much brighter and more vivid.
